This seller is, IMHO, one of the worst overgraders on ebay and I've thought
so for some time.
I noticed this coin a few days ago as I have one of the same date, they say
EF.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Scarce-1858-7-GB-Victoria-Penny-EF_W0QQitemZ180133858612
I say fine at best as it has numerous knocks.
I bought this coin from Spink many years ago and it was graded as almost EF,
http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/4/5/5/8/7/webimg/53332794_o.jpg
There is no comparison between the seller's EF and a Spink almost EF.
They claim not be grading experts, they are 100% correct in that claim, even
allowing for the differences between UK and USA grading they are way out on
every coin I've looked at.
I'm not a grading expert so it's just my opinion, just like the seller's non
expert opinion. Billy

It always irks me when sellers say they are not grading experts, or know
nothing about coins, yet feel compelled to give a grade. I believe it's
called "leading the witness."

Try these two for size, and see which you'd rather buy for your
money.

I bought the 1 centimo UNC for about £12 a couple of years back and
managed to amass the whole set for about £270.

Tola.
Although it's a rare coin, going by the description, the demand will not be
all that high.
Similar to the Isle Of Man coins with a mintage figure of 1,000 but a low
value. Billy

I wouldn't give $650.00 for the whole country of Mozambique. :-)

Serious question to those in the know - which sovereigns are worth more
than a pittance more than melt value? I've got a page for 'em and am
filling them in, but as bullion more than anything. Any cherry-picking
opportunities out there?

Haven't bought any lately, but I do have a 1913 British sovereign (Mint
State) and a 1965 Isle of Man sovereign (Proof commem) that I only paid a
pittance more than melt for. Of course "melt" was only $300 per troy ounce
when I acquired them. :-) Perhaps current pricing for those dates are
comparable?
