1813 Jersey 3/-
All,
I just acquire another Jersey 1813 three shillings token. You can see
it at:
http://jerseycoins.com/jer_tokens/3shxi.htm . This particular example fits
nicely in my collection of 3/- (
http://jerseycoins.com/jer_tokens/tokens_1.htm ). Unfortunately, I do not
own the proof example, but the rest is mine.

Enjoy,
Harold

Just slightly worn, Harold!

Are you trying to corner the market?

I do like the proof one.

Re: 1813 Jersey 3/-
Tony,

This worn example was too good of a price -- only $13.50 post paid -- to
not acquire it. As far as trying to corner the market, recently I let two
freely go to other collectors .

As far as the proof 3/-, I did try to get that one, but there is only so
much money in the wallet. However at the same auction, I was the only
bidder for its companion, a very nice 1/6 proof token. It's own display at
http://jerseycoins.com/jer_tokens/18mProof.htm .

Were these all struck from the same die pair?

Re: 1813 Jersey 3/-
There are a couple of differences on the shield side. Take a look at the
lettering on http://jerseycoins.com/jer_tokens/3shlProof.htm . Note the 'O'
in 'OF' and the 'J' in 'JERSEY'. Then take a look at
http://jerseycoins.com/jer_tokens/3shlix.htm . I don't recall seeing any
differences on the denomination side.

You can learn more about these tokens at:
http://jerseycoins.com/jer_tokens/mint_1813/Mint_1813.htm .

Thanks. I am just not seeing any difference, save the double-cut lettering
on the non-proof. The F in OF is high on both, and the spots on the animals
appear identical as well. Usually things such as the period after JERSEY
will move around die to die, but I don't see evidence of that, either. I
was just curious, as all the coins appeared to me to have been made from the
same dies.

Re: 1813 Jersey 3/-
James,
You are correct that only one die is known to exist. Somewhere along
the time line, some of the letters were repunched into the working matrix or
die causing these differences. It has been reported, that on some
specimens, striations are also visible. Some numismatic fanatics try to get
all varieties.

And a nicer coin, IMHO.
