Which supplements?
Are there any websites that describe what all the various supplements
actually do, and which are the best for various purposes? Not the best by
brand but in terms of what they actually achieve. I already use whey
protein and creatine but I see a lot of other supplements that are available
and would like to know what else is worthwhile taking. I am aiming to bulk
up and keep the fat down, and hope to improve the definition in the process.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, but not something that simply pushes
particular brands.

Best suggestion can give is do more research on A. "bulking"
(increasing muscle mass) and B. "cutting up" (increasing muscle definition)
If you want to achieve A. then you will lose B. if B is your goal then
expect a significant loss of A.
Far too many people expect a miracle in a pot instead of targeting the
root which is knowledge of the correct nutrition and training principles
to achieve success.
I have spent the best part of the last year (ALL weekends and evenings)
writing comprehensive reviews and overviews of both supplements generic
and supplements specific for informative purposes for our new and
improved web-site.
Look in the wholesale supplements section for the most information on
actual products and look in BOTH the following for fairly detailed
over-views of what the purpose of the main supplements is and if they
are as good as claimed.

http://www.gymratz.co.uk/wholesale-supplements/
This isn't just me whoreing my wares but pointing you to a genuine
non-hyped source of information. Think of the above as 2 separate sites
for the details were compiled at different times in the site creation
process and deliberately not copy/paste clones so as to keep the pages
very unique as far as search engines are concerned. Which has paid off
as Google has currently indexed 968 pages from the 1016 pages submitted.
Just shows how unique the content really is.
Examples from the above - (as I too hate following links)
Weight Gainers (wholesale)
"Trying to gain weight? Weight gain powders often referred to as weight
gainers provide an almost essential source of additional protein and
calories. Once you are getting enough protein to repair and recover from
your training then excess protein is a waste of money, what you need is
an abundance of calories. To gain weight you need to be consuming more
calories than you are burning up in the day. If you have a physical day
job then have a high calorie burn through training and exercise you need
a weight gainer. Always mix weight gainers with water to maximise
digestion and absorption without the extended bloat caused by milk
consumption. Adding 2 or 3 servings of a good weight gainer can add 1000
to 1500 kcal per day. This is enough for anyone to gain weight if it's
in additional to a good well balanced diet. Buying from our trade site
means you get much more for much less!"
Fat Burners
"Here's a supplement range that is both brilliant and a pain at the same
time. They're great because they can really help give a psychological
and physical edge when starting a restricted calorie diet, but they're a
pain because folks think they really do just burn fat away regardless of
how much they continue to eat. So, if you want a hand with fat loss then
these supplements can help really make the difference, but if you don't
sort your diet and exercise plan you're wasting your money ! "
Vitamins and Minerals
"With today's diets of processed pre-prepared foods and microwave meals
it's often difficult to get a good balance of all the correct vitamins
and minerals. This is even more important when training hard for both
resistance weight training and intense cardiovascular training. A good
multi-vitamin with significant doses or the right vitamins and minerals
in the right quantities aimed at the physically active rather than RDA
guideline amounts is one of the best dietary additions to make."
Plenty more where that came from and it saves me re-typing the same
stuff here.
I prefer to think of our store as a help and advice centre with the
option to purchase once you've been educated. But to purchase stuff
based on true and accurate reviews rather than advertisers B.S.
HTH
I think I need to re-visit some of the text on those pages as there are
a few typos but nothing critical.

Re: Which supplements?
Thanks for that information. I had a good look at both websites and have
identified four products that should help with my particular goals.
