Need to know how to use antibiotics
I didn't really get an answer to thsi question; trying again.
I have tetras with columnaris, and the instructions that come with the
antibiotics are as clear as mud.
Using Aquarium Pharmaceuticals bifuran. Also picked up some maracyn1 and
maracyn2. Haven't actually used any of this in the tank.
Have Penguin filter with biowheel, still trying to cycle it. Ammonia and
nitrite levels are higher; nitrite higher than ammonia, Nitrates 5.0.
don't want to kill the biofilter.
Which of these drugs will harm the biofilter? Getting completely different
instructions.
Instructions with bifuran say to completely change water each day and add
fresh dose each day.
Exactly how much water do I really change each day, and how much bifuran do
I really add each day?
What about with maracyn and maracyn 2?

My only comment is that in about 40 years now of fish keeping I've never
needed to put an antibiotic in any tank. What do you suspect your fish
have, and have you verified it as best you can ?

Oh you got a reply or two its just that the replies you got were not
to your liking. No one is oging to run and have to read yet another
website to figure out your problems, when you posted so much excess
crapola here that did not mean a thing in all reality to the problem.
What made you decide to pick up Marycin 1 as well as 2.One of them is
gram positive the other is gram negative.do you really know what
columanarious is........if in doubt you should hav ebought a braod
specturm drug like the triple sulphas.adn covered all
bases...........Bifuran is rare to find used with the bettr drugs out
there, and if you bought antibiotics already the doseing instructions
should b on the package.....All drugs will harm a bio filter thats why
I stated previously youneed to take the affected fisho ut of the
display tank and put the fish into a hospital or QT tank. So you see
your geting the answers to what you really need to know but you just
choose not to utilize them......Oh well what more can be said!

Re: Need to know how to use antibiotics
You're right, Pat, you did give me a partial answer.
If I use the antibiotic in the tank, and the instructions say to change the
water completely or partially before adding another dose each day, do I add
a complete dose or a partial dose?
