polysterne tiles to rest all glass tanks on!
I'm expanding my fish house again, only by 6 x 30x15x12, but I cannot
find any polysterne tiles to sit the glass tanks on?

Ceiling tiles seem to be a thing of the past in most DIY store today,
people maybe don't stick them to their kitchen ceilings anymore!

Any ideas, replacements or otherwise

They are a fire risk and building regs don't allow for them any more. There
are smaller DIY shops around that sell them, mine do. You could also go down
to B&Q and buy a polystyrene sheet (although it is about 1/2" thick), they
come in various sizes, I bought some a while back to insulate the fish
house. Other than that, fish shops sell an alternative mat, but it is
expensive from what I can remember.

Hi Mark

Just read your Peat Article, I might try it for the new six tanks!

Yes, I thought building regs might not allow it because it's nasty,
and a fire risk, strange that jablite insulation is allowed in the
loft as insulation between the rafters which passes building regs, and
lofts are more prone to burning! (maybe to toxic fumes would rise, and
you don't usually inhabit the loft!)

Been to all the large DIY stores, and yes, I've seen the larger
sheets, I've also got some in my fish house, this poly insulation is
too thick, as I'm stacking three tanks on one frame, and there would
be little room, to get me hands in!

Yes, I've seen the alternative fish shop foam mats, I've used in past,
but it compresses, and then they are useless, and also at £3.99 each
our expensive, poly tiles were so cheap, I wish I bought a box or two
now!

I've only got the larger ones - B&Q, Homebase, Wickes, ScrewFix!

The smaller independants closed down, when the peeps retired, 8 years
ago, which was a real shame, because I could just go in and purchase 4
screws, not a bag of 50!

I'm not too far away from you (maybe!!), i'm in Leeds. If you are near the
A1 or along the A19, I can maybe get a few for you and drop them off? I am
going to Peterlee next week possibly, can go either way.

Last time I set up a tank I had a similar problem. I ended up getting
a roll of polystyrene (I think it was meant as underlay for laminate
flooring). It's only about 2mm thick, but you can cut it to shape wuth
scissors and use as may layers as appropriate.

Yes, I've seen the alternative fish shop foam mats, I've used in past,
but it compresses, and then they are useless, and also at £3.99 each
our expensive, poly tiles were so cheap, I wish I bought a box or two
now!

Yes, I've seen the alternative fish shop foam mats, I've used in past,
but it compresses, and then they are useless, and also at £3.99 each
our expensive, poly tiles were so cheap, I wish I bought a box or two
now!
