Juwel Lights..
Ok so incase anyone cares.

i went to try and fix my jewel light, was not possible to open it
without breaking it. The top and bottom are press sealed or glued,
and trying to pull the two apart or slide something sharp down the
join just didnt work.

I did however get angry and decide to smash the crap out of the light
to see what was in it :) so if anyone does want to repair one there is
an electronic ballast in teh very middle of the light unit, its around
30 cm long and is screwed in to the base of the light unit ( 2 screws,
one at each end). to be honest i think the best way to repair would
be to cut from the base up. you could cut a large chunk of the unit
out ( and basically drop the entire attached ballast out, un screw,
replace and then re attach using correct silicon. I wish i knew where
the ballast was before i tried to do it the way i did cos i believe it
could be replaced and re sealed without any externally visible damage.

So if anyone has a 4ft ( 120cm broken light they want to get rid of
please let me know so that i can try the alternative repair ) i cant
afford the cost of a new one :(

In all fairness to Juwel I think it's EU safety guidelines that mean the
unit with main power has to be sealed. It is a nuisance, and as mine is
now coming up for 5 years old I'm dreading having to buy a new hood.

Could be .I bought something recently and the instructions said that
the mains lead could not be replaced and a new unit would need to be
bought .I think it said this in the instructions for an Eheim Aquaball
filter .

Re: Juwel Lights..
I have 2 Juwel tanks, a Rekord 70 & Rekord 96 , on the Rekord 70 the only
access is to the starter unit at the rear , on the Rekord 96 it was all
enclosed ( i have access inside it now ) the only problem with the Juwel
lids is the fact that if they do go wrong other than the starter units they
contain electronic ballasts so have to be replaced .
