WINGS 2009
Hallo just wondering if anyone is planning on attending WINGS or have
been in the past.
I am interested in taking my Scouts but I have never been to a camp
whhere the food is "supplied"

We are planning too, been on lots of camps where food is supplied and cooked
for us but not experienced this sort of thing.
I just hope its of good quantity and reasonably quality.

An extra £10 a person so that you can ensure you have ample food is
unlikely to break the bank, but added to the other "extras" for a week
away, it can all add up.
We are charging our Scouts £250 for the week. Our extras are:
1. Food
2. Transport there and back again.
3. Badges and woggles to trade.
4. Tee shirts and sweatshirts
5. Equipment (gas, etc)
6. Contingency

and if you tell them now, that's 20 quid/ month. and that is v
reasonable.
some leaders need to look at the competition and what they charge. I'm
not suggesting that we charge 400 quid for a PGL type week but it
means that when we fuss over £140 or £160 for a week away... we could
reasonably charge the higher amount and eat slightly better, treat the
kids to ice cream a couple of times, perhaps get camp t-shirts and a
souvenir woggle each from the camp stores. it takes the pressure off
us, and that is only fair.

Always a good idea, but may not be necessary. You could e-mail
the organising team and ask them for a sample menu, together with
quantities. (Although I haven't kept in touch with her, I once
knew the Camp Leader, Sam Knight. I attended many joint Scout and
Guide events with her Unit from Windsor. Menus were always well
planned).

That's the case even with camps where one organises one's own
catering, isn't it? :-)

What do you expect? "HQ" organised that event! :-))

Re: WINGS 2009
On my costings i got £240. But my parents are not impressed with the
costs, although I know many pay £300 for 4 nights away with school
etc.
can probably do fees £165
gas etc 5
contingency 10
food 10
t-shirts/extras 5
van hire/fuel 10
TOTAL £205
But that is thinking that the parents will travel the 2 hours to and
2 hours from camp in their own cars. And group subsideses the extra on
the van or we manage to fund raise. But that is getting harder in the
credit crunch.
Any ideas I would love to hear.

I agree, we are looking at Germany for next Summer but the costs are
horrendous. It was suggested that I allow £10 per day for food out there,
and we are planning to go for 10 days :(
Maybe Ton's wayfarer meals are looking more attractive, or to some less
repulsive :-)

We are charging about £200 max, i think this is the most we can take it.
On top of that £30 per scout comes out of the troop funds
But we hope to do lots of fund raising to bring that down
I actually feel more comfortable charging a little bit more because its
takes the stress off a little and may even help with reducing some risks, if
you have the right equipment it makes all the difference.
Whether we get t shirts etc we will decide later if the budget allows but im
avoiding wasting money on such things
Any ideas what we can use for exchange gifts etc again without spending much
money.
