Women's size 3 hiking boots - where?
My wife can't be the only woman to take a size 3 boot. can anyone
recommend a good retailer, who caters for the smaller sizes.

The only main stream retail outlets in our vicinity,(the Isle of Wight),
Millets and Blacks, all women's boots start at size 4.

Do what I do and buy children's boots. Mine are a daft pink colour, but
I paid no VAT on them, and they came in sizes from aboout a kid's 8 to
adult 6. I take a size 4 and have very wide feet. Most adult boots
start at a size five and are nothing like wide enough.

Thanks Kate, we've been that route before , quite successfully, but in
only replacement boots we can find now are imo a poorer quality, the
tongue is a lot thinner allowing the top eyelet to rub. However you're
suggestion has made me think along the lines of the quality brands, if
they have a childs boot.

Mine are cheap as chips, bought on-line (£25 Regattas), as an
experiment, as they are the first I've needed in 30 years. My feet are
quite skinny, as in very little flesh on them, but very wide. I wanted
something for walking things like chunks of The North Downs Way, but
thet also stood up to Hadriea's Wall quite well last month. They are
also incredibly comfortable: my feet didn't suffer at all. Didn't even
ache... Might not have been so happy if they'd got wet, mind. I
haven't tested them in real wet yet.

Quite a few of the better makes make quite heavu duty walking boots fot
kids. Son James had a couple of pairs we got in sales and the like,
when his feet were smaller. Sales price and lack of VAT helps a lot
with the price of these things. Now that he's into a nine and a half, I
refuse to pay more than £40 for them in Decathlon, as he's growing too
fast to keep up with (won't be 14 until October, and already 5'10" and
in gents Medium shirts and M&S 34" waist 31" inside leg jeans... ). I
pay enough VAT on his kit to avoid it on mine by buying kid's stuff like
shoes when I can. :D

I think Scarpa still do stuff small enough. My wife has a couple of pairs
in different weights/styles.

You may need to ask the retailer to special order from the importers. No
idea if Millets/Blacks will actually do that, being a big chain, I wouldn't
be surprised if they couldn't be bothered.

Scarpa's UK agent are helpful and might be able to suggest a stockist in
your area.

When I asked Tiso about a size they didn't have I found that if the chain
stocks it they can get it into the local branch without a problem (except
that their stock system doesn't always work so they may think they have
something somewhere and then it turns out they don't...). If it is a size
they don't do but the manufacturer does make (in my case a 7.5 when they
only stock 7 and 8) then they can order it in but I have to buy it -
which with boots you want to try on first may be a problems.

If you find yourself on the mainland, try a visit to Peglers at Arundel, in
particular the 'below the knee' shop in Tarrant Street. Although my wife
and I have not been buying small size boots there, they are very experienced
in boot sales and could probably get them from a supplier. We have used
them for many a year, living near Portsmouth, and have provided a great
service to us. Their web address is http://www.peglers.co.uk/,so you could
always give them a call to see if they could help.

the Peter Storm boots have survived the 14 mile section of Walk the
Wight for 3 years, including last years very wet conditions.

An example of a "not very helpful" chain store response.

A decent retailer can get stock on the basis of try, if it doesn't fit, it
goes back. My local independent works that way.

Just had a look in Scarpa's dogologue: women's start at 36 or 37,
children's at 27.
