Routes with bothys
Hi Guys, long time no post

After 6 months of my 8 year old pestering me about walking Cader and
sleeping over on the top I finally relented a couple of weeks ago and we had
a really great time and he's dead keen now on doing other walks that have
bothy type accommodation en-route. To be honest what did it was the weather
and then the biggest ever inversion at 0500. So if you know of any routes
that have one night accommodation such as the priest hole cave, the bothy
on the top of Cader, (the rescue hut on the top of Ben is out of the
question for a while) and you are willing to share these with the group I'd
really appreciate it.

If I can get him into climbing as well then I'm blown in !

Thanks

Steve

Try looking at:

http://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/

They don't actually tell you where they are, if you are not a paid up
member - although there are a few clues. However, in the picture gallery
you get all the names and then with something like Memory Map you can do
a search.

If you are stuck for getting to Scotland there are not all that many. I
like the one on Cross Fell.

The last one I stayed in was reached by canoe on Loch Glencoul - a magic
place to watch the sunset.

Foel Grach in the Carneddau is similar to the Cadair Idris shelter.

They're much, much more basic than an MBA bothy though. I've stayed in paid
accommodation that's been more basic than some of the MBA bothies!

Like Martin says in another post, you can visit the MBA website and work out
where they are. There's a superb one in Eryri itself, but i'm not going to
tell on a public forum! The MBA does some good work looking after these
bothies, and membership of the organisation helps them maintain this high
standard (the same price as one night in a YH).
