Out and about
Anyone seen any woodcock this year?

A few chums and I spent an evening shooting a local crow roost, set out
like a driven shoot but with no beaters. We lined the wood and waited for
the crows to cross the line. Several woodcock flew over me. My thoughts now
move to the dogs, a cold winters day and a few shots at woodcock.
I've seen a lot of in-land wildfowl this year. Driving over to pick the Mrs
up from her mothers this afternoon I spotted a dozen or more geese, mallards
are also abundant on a ponds dotted around the area. A chap I spoke with
told me that he has shot plenty of duck this year, more than normal in fact.
