Depends on whether you grind off the corners first and how heavy handed you are.

I did a short test of the variable speed Parkside model from
aldi on a piece of painted old oak. I was surprised how
much control was available the scraper movement is hardly
visible but the paint / varnish came off quite rapidly and
with much less effort than hand scraping and less risk of
damage. The scrapers and chisels supplied appeared to be
very hard and sharp. guess they are not tungsten carbide
though. Stripping across the rather open oak cross grain
worked with care which is something I don't think would work
very well hand scraping. I am almost looking forward to
trying it on a real job.

The problem using the Bosch scraper is caused by the very sharp corners on the
blade.

Apologies for senior memory failure I bought the Parkside
scraper from Lidl not Aldi. I don't know if it because my
local Lidl is close to the marina but the scraper sold out
before I could buy one on the 2 previous occasions they were
offered.
