Television alert!
Checking my tv schedule for the weekend I see that Channel 5 is showing
Brisca F1 from Coventry at 00.05 on monday morning. Also, does anybody know
of any other coverage of British stockcar racing on "mainstream" tv?

Not for some years now, no. C5 have been taking a lukewarm interest in a
few meetings but the last time I can remember them getting involved
resulted in a rather odious documentary that concluded that it is a
dangerous sport (which we know) that should be shut down and replaced by
something that is less dangerous (a non-dangerous motor sport? There ain't
no such animile!)

Other than that, the only bits I've seen in recent years is a revival of
that old Bangers and Crash things that LiveTV did, which was mostly PRI
and Spedeworth with a few bits thrown in, mostly concentrating on Bangers,
and something that Granada did for Men and Motors which seemed to mostly
concentrate on various TSR stuff. Beyond that, you'd need to go right back
to the days of World of Sport...

Actually, I just remembered that Incarace had some coverage a while back,
but I forget what it was they were doing. Some sort of team do, I thinks.

You may well be right. ISTR some of the emails of the day mentioning the
various teams (hack! spit![1]) involved.

[1] Yes, I'm getting rather sick of team "racing"!

You may well be right. ISTR some of the emails of the day mentioning the
various teams (hack! spit![1]) involved.

[1] Yes, I'm getting rather sick of team "racing"!

Hi there,

Having a good memory isn't something that I can boast of :-). Personally
I think that TV coverage all went down hill after the World of Sport
from Ipswich.

Most of the more recent coverage has as you say been of bnagers and
often seems to have been aimed at either taking the micky out of the
sport or proving that it's highly dangerous. Not really helpful
approaches.

As much as I enjoy the sport live I think that it's pretty hard to make
it seem exciting on TV. The cameras often seem to be in the wrong places
(making the cars look really slow), there's little sound of the cars and
the commentary can be a bit inane.

The latest show of the F1's was much better than the average but will
showing it after midnight attract that many new folk to the tracks.
Still at least it's a start and I thought that they did go to some
lengths to explain what the cars were and how the sport operated. I
understand that there will be more engine noise in future programs and
the number of laps to go etc will be mentioned. Thankgoodness they have
a good comentator on the job in the form of Nick Knowles.

All the best Roger
