Thoughts on Prescott, 2nd Sept 2007
I'm aware that these groups are pretty much dead these days, but on the
offchance that someone is still reading...
Firstly, the catering was much improved from the spring fiasco. Not only
was there a better choice of food (including the all-important bacon
baps!) but the queues were much shorter, perhaps because of the sensible
decision to open the kiosks for breakfast as well as lunch.
The day's motorsport itself was mostly excellent, with the last two runs
of the morning run-off producing outright hill records, first for Martin
Groves and then for Scott Moran - I reckon the latter driver now just
shades Groves for speed. Another good record was Robert Kenrick's, though
it was quite disappointing that he did not run at all in the afternoon,
especially if (as the PA implied) that was simply a matter of "resting on
his laurels". And of course a new Ladies' Record for Sue Young.
One perhaps slightly controversial point now... during the afternoon,
there was a long delay while an ambulance attended to someone in the
Orchard/Ettore's area. The PA stayed entirely silent throughout, and I
don't think this is a good idea. I have nothing at all against suspending
the usual chatter, but one brief announcement explaining that the delay
was because of the aforementioned ambulance attendance would have been
extremely welcome. I really can't see any reason for total, unbroken
silence.
