four hundred four handling slightly improved
Looks like I might have a frame for sale soon :)
I found a tuit today and swapped the front mudguard for the newer item
recently acquired.
Strangely it fits differently tot he old one. On the brake side the old
one has a 'bridge' of metal that curves from one mounting bolt to the
other around the alloy pivot on the brake caliper arm. The newer 'guard
has two tabs that protrude downwards; in any event it fits better than
the old twisted item.
While replacing the front wheel I noticed the BOL was showing the wheel
spindle as being inserted opposite to the way mine was. I swapped it
round and it appeared to make very little difference to the wheel
position (OK measuring was a bit rough).
A ten mile spin revealed the left hand cornering problem has gone away.
It still pogo's a tad, it weaves when accelerating to terminal
velocities(1) hard and I really need to overhaul the front brake :)
Taking hands off the bars at various speeds has it tracking straight and
true.
Something taps like mad at the top of the engine when revving as well..
But all in all I was rather pleased and I don't believe I have a bent
frame or knackered swing arm bearings anymore.
New tyres methinks. Does anyone know how to decipher Metzeler tyre
codes?
Cheers for listening...
1. Today's T.V.: 95mph (2)
2. On my private road here in NW.

Am I to understand that your private road is ten miles long, and am I
also to understand that it takes ten miles to accelerate to top speed?

I did find that one.
6. 3403 = the first 2 numbers identify the week (34 th ) and the last 2
the year (2003) in which the tyre was produced
On mine it says this: front 1406 rear 5406
I'm a little confused by the rear :)

Hmmm ... not even a Leap Year could account for that.
I can guess that yer man at the tyre factory used the wrong number on
the mould because he was distracted at the time by Tracey on Page 3, and
it does not inspire confidence.

One afternoon many years ago I declared the M40>A40 my private road.
Unfortunately Plod did not agree with this. Ho hum.
