Paging FOAK; sending large parcels overseas.
So, I've sold a set of Krauser panniers only to find the buyer is in
Sicily.

What's the cheapest way to send them to Italy?

Parcelforce seem to want IRO 50 quid. Surely there's a cheaper way?
Anyone?

Oh, and if I end up flogging them to someone in the UK instead, what
would be the cheapest way of sending them within the UK?

Thanks...

I'm assuming these are hard panniers, in which case <sucks teeth>
anything that involves an aircraft is going to be expensive.

You could try TNT and see how much they would charge you - I have no
idea what their consumer rates are these days.

Underground railway. You could look at Target who always did me well on
service and price.

Apart from taking a <spit> Ryanair flight or similar, probably not. You
may get lucky with people like interparcel or parcels2go but changes are
that they'll charge volumetric weight. Ie, lots.

Probably parcelfarts again due to the above.

Big items are expensive to send to Europe. And anything over the 2.5kg
(I think) weight limit is expensive too.

www.parcel2go.com I've used them frequently. Their prices start around
six or seven quid. There is an upper weight/size limit: when I had to
send someone a pair of wheels it was cheaper to send them as two
separate items.

To a certain extent, does it matter? It's not as if it's you that's going
to be paying for 'em, and surely he had a vague clue that postage wasn't
going to be cheap before bidding...?

It's worth trying Royal Fail. I posted a pair of car front seats to
California a couple of years ago, and was fairly surprised to find it
"only" cost (IIRC) about £70. Sure, that was surface rather than air, and
they took about four months to arrive, but...

I recently sent a Guzzi seat to Greece by Royal Mail, it was about ?40
and that was the cheapest.

Staples has a courier desk (DHL?) in most shops.
I haven't tried it but I intend to check the prices one of these days.

Must depend how you pack them: I sent a pair of wheels (including
tyres)[0] recently, and it cost less than 8 quid. Bargain, I thought.

Package dimensions:
Weight: 23.5kg
Length: 68 cm
Width: 68 cm
Height: 29 cm
Volume: 4.73 cubic feet

Love the mix of imperial and metric measurements.

Mine included tyres, both discs on the front, and disc and sprocket on
the rear. Z650 wheels, as it happened, and together they were over the
25kg limit.

Heh. Indeed.

They used to be pretty unbeatable on account of them operating a fixed price
policy, but that was a while ago and they've changed pricing. I didn't find
their new pricing cheap enough to drive across town instead of lugging stuff
across the road to the Post Office.
