Read the reviews, there are an awful lot of DOAs and early failures
there.

My position was (and, to be honest, largely remains) one of complete ambiguity.

3Gbps my arse. That might be the bus speed, but the disk speed won't
get anywhere near it.

Around 110MBps sustained transfer for that drive - so about 0.86Gbps. I
suppose there's a fair amount of overhead in communicating on the bus
but it does sound like that is still limited by the drive itself.

It always is. The increased bus speed means that you can have more
drives running at full chat on the same bus before you hit a
bottleneck, but if it's SATA you're unlikely to have a shared bus
anyway, so the numbers are just marketing nonsense.

Aria were doing them for £70 a couple of weeks ago. T'was so
difficult to resist, I bought an extra one to chuck on the slug.

Better hope there's no problems then because getting those fuck witted
useless cunts to replace a faulty item is next to fucking impossible.

Yes, but it all goes in cycles with the usual suspects though - Scan
had a bad reputation for returns before they passed the baton to CCL,
who then were overtaken in the cuntishness stakes by Ebuyer - who now
appear to be splendidly good at taking stuff back.

Well, I've used a few (7 or 8) drives from the 'spinpoint' series and
haven't had any problems with them. Agree it's a small sample but I
thought they had a fairly good reputation.

However... If my memory serves didn't Champ have a DOA?

heh - I'd say that for a home user, '7 or 8' is quite a lot :-)

Yep - eBuyer sorted the refund with no drama at all.
