OT: paging the Francaise/Franglaise
Vin d'honneur. Been to one (allegedly) in Jersey today. What exactly is
the tradition in France? When, why, who etc.?

Ask the question in a UN-approved language, and I might be able to
answer...

Apparently 'As is usual in traditional French weddings, after the
ceremony there was a vin d'honneur. The vin d'honneur is kind of a
mini-reception that happens right after the ceremony where there are
glasses of wine and some snacks (brioche, cookies, potato chips,
crackers, peanuts, etc.). Everyone who is invited to the ceremony is
invited to the vin d'honneur. This gives the bride and groom a chance to
talk to everyone who came to the ceremony without it having to be a big
deal. Usually a big meal for the family and very close friends follows
the vin d'honneur, and after that there is a ball (dance) that friends
are invited back for. '

I've been to a couple in the past. It's mostly just an excuse for a few
drinks after a wedding ceremony. Mind you, it's generally another
excuse for a piss up . :-)

It's no wonder everyone here thinks you are a cunt Des.
A simple answer to a simple question is all was needed not a sarcastic
remark about a non existent language issue.

Even I would have Googled for that and assisted if someone else had not
answered!

Well in my defence, I was pretty drunk when I answered the post, but I
did have some difficulty in understanding what he was asking.

I don't think that Jerriais [sorry about the lack of an accent grave] (a
dialect of Norman) that is spoken here would count as UN-approved.

We had a 'vin d'honneur' (that's how they spelled it) here in Saint Aubin
on Sunday. A glass of wine, some nibbles and a Jersey-beef sirloin roll
(cooked very rare). Seems that accords with the mainland tradition. Who
or what is being 'honoured', or is that a silly question?

I must go and walk the tchian.
