Ok, I'll shut up now...
I've put down the deposit today on an R6.
2003, last of the carb based models, in the right colour, never been
dropped, standard bar an aftermarket can, long MOT and with a mere
3,300 miles under it.
£2500.
Given what they fetching with more miles / on an earlier plate, I
think I've had a result - TOG?
Picking it up asap. :-)
All I need now to complete the (almost) midlife biking crisis, is a
set of matching leathers in 'piefancier' size. ;-)

My son is obviously a poof - he turns 16 in November and despite
plenty of encouragement from me to let me get him a scooter (1) or
something, he wants a bloody BMX instead.
(1) Look, I had one when I was 16 and I turned out ok... didn't I?

I'm fine thanks
Trouble with my wrists and 2 operations made me rethink my rides.
Plus, they're not actually as shit as non owners think, and they hold
their value better than any Jap bike.
So what about you ?

Good stuff. :-)
> Trouble with my wrists and 2 operations made me rethink my rides.
:-(
I keep having problems with my wrists actually.
'Enjoy it while it lasts' is how I'm looking at it these days given
they seem to be getting worse over time and the doc doesn't really say
much other than 'wear and tear' when I've mentioned it in the past.
> Plus, they're not actually as shit as non owners think, and they hold

I can see why some might like them... I did work at the local Hardly
dealers for a while though, and it has to be said, they do seem to
attract a certain type going by what I saw, especially when they
hosted a big meet of like minded types.
> So what about you ?
I have a job and everything these days, although 'Corporate IT
Whore' (1) is something I'm not sure I want to continue with for that
much longer if I am brutally honest - life is too short to spend the
bulk of it listening to IT illiterate fucktards gripes, and all that.
That, and yet again I'm working for a company that is 'restructuring'
how it does IT, and yet again I'm finding that I'm having to reapply
for my own sodding job.
I'm not at all bitter. :-)
Involved with a local car tuners as well... so maybe that'll become a
bigger part of my working life going forwards, given I've actually got
a keen interest in what we do down there.
Which reminds me... would any of the South Eastisti be interested in a
'UKRM Rolling Road' day kind of thing?
Cars or bikes... I can get a decent rate sorted out if there are at
least ten vehicles presented in a single session.
(1) Unfortunately, this equates to 'Managed Service' - I need to try
to specialise in something again really, if I want to stay in IT and
move away from the current doldrums I find myself in.

Well you've got a few years to go to catch me up laddy.
I've had both my carpal tunnels done and they're now fine
But my gp did try to fob me off with injections and 18 month waiting
lists.
So I went private.
But the wrists combined with the short legs mean I'm happier on a
cruiser.
Can just touch the floor on the beemer,( can't take the Harley to
Africa)
Don't have any wrist trouble at all now.
And don't get off the bike aching after 300 miles.

I haven't been there that long, so don't really have a leg to stand
on... but I have muttered 'my contract states I'm IT Manager... and as
far as I'm concerned I still will be on the turn of 1st January', when
all this kicks in.
Atypical corporate restructure - they're flushing the word 'Manager'
from a load of job titles but still expecting you to have the same
basic responsibilities in the alternative role they're creating, which
in this particular case is 'Lead Technician'.
I've made it quite clear that by applying for Lead Tech, I'd be
agreeing to what they've proposed.
I don't agree, so I'm not applying... which has ruffled a few
feathers. :-)
There is a possibility of me getting a more senior role... so I've
asked for them to decide whether or not this is a go-er by the time I
get back off holiday Mid October.
FWIW, I've had enough of IT anyway really, or at least this particular
flavour of it... so if it all ends in tears, whilst I appreciate it's
not the best of financial climates out there at the mo, maybe it'll
work out for the best given it's not like I've not put any fingers in
an alternative pie, as in the car tuning stuff.
I'm someone who spends money like water when they've got it and manage
fine when it's a bit thin on the ground, so I'm sure I'll cope.

As long as the responsibilities are the same AND the money's the same, so
what? A job title's irrelevant.

The responsibilities aren't *all* the same... the basic ones are..
It'll be 'more customer focused', apparently, and less getting your
hands mucky with servers etc.
At the moment I get plenty of the latter, which I enjoy far more than
dealing with our 'customers'.
> A job title's irrelevant.
Job satisfaction is very relevant - I'll get little if I take the role
concerned.

Depends - if you're career minded, it can make a hell of a difference.
Try getting a job as an IT Project Manager if your current job title is
"programmer grade 2".
