What an odd sight
I must make when I take the dogs for a walk[1]
It's a good job there are plenty of quiet tracks around
here with no people about, because tonight, as is my want,
I had my Zen on LOUD, and DJ mode, and it played N.I.B.,
Smoke On The Water, then War Pigs, which would have
presented any other passing strangers with the sight of a
short-aresd, horizontally challenged, bearded & balding 55
year old bloke bopping down the tracks, playing air guitar,
air drums & air keyboards.
[1] Well, a demented mob-charge across the freshly
harvested corn fields.

Honey, if you'd seen my wardrobe then you'd know I wasn't a slave to
fashion or marketing.

Or audio quality, ease of use, reliability, battery life...

over 2 weeks on a USB charge.
Plus a useable PC software, and no inclination whatsoever to
use Itunes to download overpriced music.

Zen have a very good reputation for sound quality though I've not
tried back to back tests with an iPod (life's too short, etc).

To be honest, I don't find the Zen that intuitive. I had to resort to
the instructions to work out how to create playlists on the player
itself, but other than that it's OK.

One lock-up in 5 months for me but they do seem prone to 'issues'.
Maybe I've been lucky or maybe later firmware releases solved some of
the problems.

It's not so good if you're playing video but with the screen off a
charge seems to last as long as you could reasonably expect/need.
And on the subject of screens, it's bigger than the equivalent iPod.
You can quite comfortably watch a ripped DVD on the train, etc.

Check!
Oh, and it has a radio. And you can sync appointments and tasks with
outlook if you're so minded. And of course you get EQ adjustment too.
And an internal mic. And the Zen's cheaper by some margin.
Still, iPods do look nice.

*dingly ding*
I like the Zen a lot. Of course, I've never actually used an iPod in
anger, but I've always had an irrational dislike of Apple[1] and I'm
finding myself becoming more so as time goes on.
[1] It might just be "because every cunt's got one" but I don't know
for sure.
