Bikeism? erm is that a phrase?
Having a quiet spin out on the K1200GT yesterday, got tucked in behind a
couple on an R1200GS on the A5, heading from Corwen to Betws y Coed, and to
be fair he was riding "nicely" so I was quite happy to trundle along behind
him.

Just after the Goat Hotel some guys signaled to us that a speed trap was up
ahead, we weren't really going that quick anyway but just made sure we were
at 60.

A bit further on, the police were in the middle of the road signaling us in.
I was a bit perplexed as I knew (by the GPS) we'd not exceeded 60.

Turns out it was a "check" to ensure only legal bikes are on north Wales
roads and somehow to reduce deaths (quite how this happens I don't know).
Anyway the officer who came to me took one look at the sparkly K12GT and
said "Oh I can see there'll be nothing wrong with this, here have this slip
of paper and show it if you get stopped again". The sheet basically said
Checked and gave some guff on what the stop was for and he'd written my reg
number and name on it.

So if you want to be a bad boy, ride a Beemer 'cos it appears to be a get
out of gaol card in north Wales :) I suspect my treatment may have been
different had I been on the ZX12R perhaps?

What a bunch of patronising cunts North Wales plod seem to be. Do they
all take in the bollocks that Brunstrom spouts to the extent that they
bow and scrape at his every word.

Surely every self-respecting motorcyclist avoids N. Wales like the
plague now, so surely plod's job has been made a lot easier since that
cunt took over the controls. There's no way you'll find me going there
for a ride-out, the chances of getting stopped for doing fuck all wrong
are way too high and it just seems to me that all of N. Wales plod are
cunts, not just Brunstrom.

I'll stick to riding in civilisation, thanks very much.

I have lived Gwynedd for 8 years and been stopped only once, which was
for loud cans on the Tuono, by a copper who was perfectly reasonable
about it and just suggested it would be prudent to get them changed as
I might encounter one of his less sympathetic colleagues. Otherwise it
is no worse than when I lived in London, or Portsmouth, or Bracknell,
or Weymouth, or ... well you get the idea. And the roads here at
weekends in the summer still have, despite Brunstrom's best efforts, a
considerable number of motorcycles on them, so it seems that a lot of
people are not letting it bother them, which must be irritating him
rather more than roads completely devoid of motorcycles would.

If we can get maybe 10~20 bikes, wander round till we find the "bike unit"
and then ride past it one bike at a time, in 1 minute intervals, riding in
a loop so we keep going past them, and then following them and doing the
same when they get pissed off and fuck off to somewhere new...?

Obviously need to ensure that every bike is 100% legit beforehand.

So what was the reason for the stop? I was under the impression (possibly
wrong it would seem) that they had to have some kind of suspicion of
wrongdoing in order to pull one over for a chat shall we say.

All of the ones I have chatted with have had a *good reason* for wanting to
converse with me and its never been my sparkling wit and charm that has
prompted the meeting. ;) I got stopped in South Mymms once on the M1. They
apparently joined just after me at Brent Cross. Now *that* was a little
difficult to explain.

So do the police now have a licence to do WTF they like whenever they like
with reasoning for their actions coming after the fact?

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Kevin Lambert"
 saying something like:

Hoyuss. I sincerely hope he's tramping round the hills hearing the
distant sound of sporty pipes.

You can try - you won't succeed. Piss off traffic plod and they *will*
find something wrong.

Yeah, I realise that, but what I'm thinking of is, is there some way that
you can get police to do a thorough check of the bike, and then issue
something that says its all ok? A bit like an MOT equivalent of the police
advanced driving test?

Do that for all the bikes, then when the police find "something" wrong with
a large number of them, they're basically calling themselves liars, which
should provide endless amusement when the papers/news/MCN get hold of the
information.
