Yeah, but we know most peoples

1st Bike
1st Pillion
1st Collar
1st Race
1st Crash
1st Ton
1st Wheelie

And lets face it, when most of the fogeys on here started biking, they
wouldn't be able to do a ton or have the power to wheelie their AP50's
or FS1-E's

Hmm.. maybe I am getting old. I wanted an AR80, then I lusted after a
350LC. *sigh* Still wouldn't mind something else loud and two stroke.
Got to settle for something odd and four stroke I'm currently in the
process of planning / building.

Had both of those, and great fun they were too. The AR80 was a stonking
little bike, but it did destroy clutch baskets if you wheelied it
lots...which I did.

Yeah. Back then, the only kit I could get my hands on that could honestly
crack the ton was a Cessna 150.

Much too young for the real fogeys, who started out on Bantams and moved
on to Nortons.

A few quick mods to the silencers on my Jawa and Robert is your father's
brother. For Sale. Cheap.

You say that as if it's a good thing.

Progress isn't a crime but I suppose anyone who includes the word
unix in their sig will argue that point.

Hmm... not me. I moved on to a Triumph Blazer SS, which was a beezer
with a Triumph sticker on it (which fell off, as did pretty much
everything else IIRC).

I don't think you can undercut the one I'm getting for free. The engine
is coming out, and an auto scooter engine of some sort is going in [1].
All I need is a rolling chassis and log book.

That's the problem with you youngsters, you set your sights too low.
When I had a Fizzy I aspired to a Harris Magnum Z1000, like the one I'd
seen in a magazine. I ended up with an RD400F almost straight after my
test.

When I had my YB100, I aspired to a Suzuki GT185.

I actually *bought* a Honda CB175, which was (and is) a brilliant mini
sports bike.

I remember you saying that you had one or two of those DR400s. I'd have
liked my mates RD350LC painted up in a 7up type theme. Now I just want
to ride a twist and go scooter until I can afford to get a big bike with
no clutch.

Oh, is it nostalgia corner. I saw an RD50 outside the local Yam dealer

I had one of them, followed by an RD50, then a MTX125, then a
RD125LCII.

TL125, Gillera 50[1], RD250DX[2] for me.

[1] I was so glad I was 'different'. Cracking little bike - love to
have another.
[2] Lozzo foaming mouth material[3].
[3] White it was - wiv red bits[4].
[4] And Castrol GTX/Hoover RamAir system, & a Zippo boost bottle.

<Dons white with red speedblock motif anorak>

They never made an RD250DX.

They made an RD250D - note: no X[1] -, which had points ignition,
followed by the RD250E and F with CDI. Only the E and F came in white
with red speedblock decals, the F was easily identified by its red
wheels and dogleg levers as they were the only diferences. Other colour
Fs only got the dogleg levers. Frame numbers for the E started with
110, and for the F they started 330.

<removes anorak>

[1] A horrible legacy of spotty teenagers moving up to RDs from FS1Es,
which did have a DX model to signify a front disc brake and were
identified by their speedblock graphics. Naturally some owners of
RD250Ds had speedblocks and a disc brake and automatically decided they
had a DX not a D model as that was the model designation of their old
FS1E. It's a bit like Rover SD1 owners saying they have an SDI - they
are clueless cunts who can't read a handbook.

I've got half a box of Tempranillo in me, & two dates lined up for this
week - it'll take more than a spurious u to wind me up.

I had a 125 Bantam, one of the more modern ones with rear suspension.
Took the kick start off, put the gear lever on the other way round and
used the pillion footrest to save shoe wear when cornering. Tuned it up
by filing some off the cylinder head, had a bit of trouble getting the
head gasket to seal as the filing wasn't very flat.

I had a FS1EDX followed by an RD200. Silver, wire wheels, T-reg. Can
I have the full history of the 200s too, please?

I'll ask my eldest daughter, she knows more about the 125s and 200s
than I do. She's restored a 1981 X plate RD125 twin

*shocked*

My 200 became a 125 after I sold it, as the 125cc L-plate law came in
and the then owner thought the easiest thing was to swap the engine
over. I don't know whether it ever became a 200 again...

The easiest thing was to swop the details on the log book and the
sidepanel stickers then grind the capacity numbers off the bottom of
the barrels. That's all we used to do when we were flogging off the
ones we'd bought for pennies. We always told the buyer that it was
actually a 200, but they never seemed to care. We did the same with
KE175s, DT175MXs etc...Kerching

I used to live near Enfield. But I've never been to Bantam..

It's not an edifying sight.

Yeah, I knew there were some right crusty's on here ;) Those were the
dream bikes of my era as a 16 y/o. I of course was (very unfairly)
banned from riding such a dangerous object, and since I then went on
to write off 2 cars in short order, it's probably one of the things my
dad was more right about in retrospect.
