But this is PB we're talking about - years since I read it, but it
always looked like someone had taken a rider's comments verbatim and
then gone through a reverse grammar and spell checking process.

No we're not.

FB, PB, what's the difference?

In the font I'm seeing this in, very little actually.

At the time, not a lot - PB was more street-focussed, FB had more of a
racing bias, but they were fairly similar. While PB would have yet
another Harris-framed road bike, FB had a classic article where they
took Sean Emmet's Harris YZR500 out for a spin on the road.

I was working in a newsagents at the time, so spent my Saturday
mornings reading PB, FB, UMG and anything else that looked more
interesting than bunging stuff on shelves. I think it was UMG, anyway -
small A5 sized thing that featured mini reviews of every bike around
and was rammed with the kind of anecdotes Pip churns out.

I used to get UMG [1]. I didn't like the other A5 mag, UBG, as that was
a bit wanky but they were broadly the same.

[1] Still have a stack of them.
