Motorcaravans
Hi. Could anybody give me an advise? 2 month ago I bought a caravan
ALSENA, 20 years old. I brought it out of UK, and deside to sell it.
The problem is that if I selling a caravan in that EU country I have
to have Registration documents (like LogBook for the car in UK). I
called to DVLA, they explained to me that caravans are not registering
in UK. What I should do now? Who could give a document with the stamp
that this is my caravan and I haven't stole it.

In UK, light trailers such as caravans are not required to be registered.
However, we do have a voluntary scheme called CRIS that is run by a
company called HPI. Unfortunately, CRIS was established in the early
1990s, so a twenty-year-old caravan is unlikely to be registered. Thus I
suspect you'll have to register the caravan yourself, just as you or a
dealer would need to with a brand-new caravan in your own country.
You'll almost certainly need the trailer's VIN to register it. IIRC, UK
trailers were not required by law to have vehicle identification numbers
(VINs) although most did. If your caravan has a VIN it should be recorded
either on a plate near the door and/or on the drawbar (A-frame) possibly
under the fairing if fitted.

Are we talking trailer type caravan or self propelled motorcaravan?

It may be more complicated but is it better?

As the thread and group are about motorcaravans you can assume the latter.
It appears that the OP is foreign and has never registered his 'van in the

Given that the DVLA said they weren't registered in UK and motorcaravans
are registered, I assumed trailer caravan. Another clue is that the caravan
seems to have been used for 20 years in another EU country without being
registered, which doesn't make sense for a motor vehicle. Also, if it was a
motorcaravan, I suspect it would have carried a UK registration mark 20
years ago when the OP bought it.

I think the two responses so far adequately justify my question.
The OP has only owned the van for 2 months so perhaps the seller hasn't
handed over the registration document. Then of course if you ring DVLA
and ask for a "Caravan" registration document they will probably assume
trailer caravan.
