I must admit that, so far, this season's shaping up nicely. Not had a blank
shore session since February, no huge bags and no huge fish but bass and
mullet up to 3 or 4lb and other species in reasonable sizes - eg., night
before last a three-hour fly-fishing session for four mackerel, three scad
and a pollock, everything between 1 lb and 1 1/2 lb, (fishing buddy took a
similar bag on float) also saw bass and gar. I'd say it looks good for the
next few months too.

Its not that way in North Norfolk, last four 5/6hour sessions have
blanked tried black lug, peeler, squid even limpet and muscle and
cocktails there of, different spots on beach (beach is 50 yards from my
home) and not a sausage, or fish. Was in Cromer a few weeks ago and a guy
landed a 12lb bass from the pier, wouldn't have believed it had I not
seen it myself, a real monster, probably to big for the seals which I
reckon have eaten everything else. Used to fish in Hythe (Hampshire) and
at Milford down by Hurst Castle and occasionally at Mudeford (near
Christchurch) where I would use light fresh water gear and maggots for
smelt good fun in itself, then live-bait with the smelt for bass... Ahhhh.
Glad its good where you are, gar, mm, are you in the West Country?

Er, not tried any of those - so far everything either plugged, spun, or
flyfished - but planning a few float sessions for mullet rsn.

Looks like your cue to start live baiting for bass again.

Nice County, there's something in the back of my mind telling me, some
years back, that Mudeford relocated form Hampshire to Dorset!
