windfarm at Lochluichart
I would like to draw you attention to a windfarm proposal in the Highlands
of Scotland. If this goes ahead it may be the end of wild Scotland as we
know, and love, it. www.a-windfarm-too-far.com
Please look at the site and object.

I think wind farms are good. You wouldn't believe the amount of tourist
traffic our local one behind Elgin gets - and it's a 4 mile walk! I
suppose you'll also veto nuclear power in favour of our grandchildren
sweltering to death if they don't drown first?

Re: windfarm at Lochluichart
I have visited the windfarms at Elgin and Huntly but my reason for these
visits was to see for myself if they would be suitable for this area. I
don't believe they are. The area that this windfarm would be built is
virtually pristine wilderness. It is surrounded by Munros and is a habitat
for eagles and ospreys. We will get nuclear power whether you want it or
not and windfarms can not replace nuclear power stations. Nuclear power
stations do not produce CO2. I would object to a nuclear power station in
this site as well. This is not a place for industrialisation. There are
not many truly wild places left in Britain and this is one of them.

I have nothing against your objections but as I understand it
virtually the whole of the Scottish landscape is in fact man made
having being originally covered in forest until man appeared and
destroyed it.
My only post on this as 'tis nowt to do with fishing....

Ahem. I have no objections to windfarms and your point is very valid. I
_do_ believe that just outside Aberystwyth wind farms have had a major
effect on fishing as the earth movements in siting the things has
released lots of noxious chemicals from days gone by into the rivers.

I wonder where Mr Goudie lives? Sounds like another NIMBY to me. I've just
used his link to add support for the farm.

So, you think that people who are likely to be directly affected by a
proposal should be debarred from opposing it?

Re: windfarm at Lochluichart
I do live next to the proposed windfarm and I think that if I had not
mentioned it here you would not have known about it. These developments are
left to local people to lodge objections. I think there are only 20 houses
within 5 km of this windfarm. There is no national strategy for their
location. This windfarm will cost just short of £100,000,000 (is that 100
million?) to construct. I am almost retired and will hardly see the
windfarm from my house however a vast area of wild Scotland will be
destroyed. Loch Nam Faidh lies within this windfarm area and is a good
trout loch. Eagles and ospreys fly in this area. This is not the place for
a windfarm. We need your objections. The Scottish Executive is not going
to pay much attention to 20 objectors!

Legally the only people who have a valid objections are those local people,
all other objections can be ignored, so why do you need other objections?

Re: windfarm at Lochluichart
I think anyone has the right to object to such plans. The decision will be
made, not locally but by the Scottish Executive. The local council has
already made an objection but in previous cases this does not seem to matter
to the executive! This is a large windfarm, it effects the whole country,
the whole country should have a say.

Re: windfarm at Lochluichart legal?
"Suspicious minds" have raised in interesting issue here. Although this
project will be decided by government the nation does not have access to
the necessary information to either object or approve. The environmental
statement is only available locally and is not published to the Internet.
Planning permission has only been advertised locally. I think you have
grounds to object simply because you have not been given the information to
allow you to have your say!

Relative lives at Cefn Clwyd above Capel Dewi. Apparently the farm on
the hill opposite has had an effect on the Rheidol system. They said
that this was from the local angling club but I'm afraid I don't know
any more. Sorry.

The Rheidol area is well known for lead mining in the past.
