and following on from the above post as an example of something you can do
is from the news today, (it was actually posted in a Garden News magazine
before Christmas)

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/06012007/140/uk-braced-droughts-summer.html

but take note of the following extract .........

Now, the reservoir is back up to 84% capacity.

But below ground the aquifers - the porous rocks that store most of the
South-East's water - are still severely depleted.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "Well over 80% of water supplies in
the south east of England don't come from reservoirs like this.

"They come from natural underground reservoirs where the water's taken out
by wells and bore-holes.

"Those natural reservoirs are much, much lower in terms of water and that's
what we're really worried about."

WHY are they so low? Certainly not lack of rain because the reservoir is
back up to 84% capacity.

So why are the Bore Holes and water table low?

Because too much building is going on and the water being diverted from the
virgin soil to drains and thus rivers and hence the sea.

Now if you 'really' want to do something instead of talking about it. Oppose
every planning application which will cover virgin ground with a rain
catching to drain system. i.e. gutters off roofs and front gardens covered
in concrete for car parking.

I have. I opposed the council wanting to apply planning permission on some
land and selling it off. And won. I opposed planning permission for two
blocks of flats. And won

Over to you 'talkers' for action

Mike
