FTAOD the car came to a halt about 6 or 7 metres from the stop line at

I'd like to think I'd have noticed that there was something wrong long
before it became critical.
Bloody women, eh? - was filling up with diesel today and at the pump on
the opposite side to me, a woman managed to spill a good few litres of
unleaded on the forecourt before I tracked down where I could hear where
the splashing was coming from and warned her.

Heh, years ago at the petrol station I worked at, a lady parked up at a pump
the "wrong" side (well, it *is* the wrong side if you can't manage to get
closer than about 4ft to it). She stretched the pump hose over her car, but
despite the fact it didn't quite reach she thought she'd try and fill up by
shooting the petrol across the gap into her tank. Eventually she gave up and
moved to a different pump (correct side this time, filled up OK), but then
tried to only pay for the second lot! Got right stroppy when I charged her
for the load she'd spilled.

Well, I'd have tried to aim for the solicitor's (2), one of the pubs,
the post office (post offices are doomed anyway), the detective agency
(!), beauty specialists, hairdressers, baker's, cafe, technology
consultants, Indian restaurant (2), county council offices ... There
was such a choice of viable targets, so why on earth hit the sodding
museum in a several hundred years old building.
Given enough time and enough vehicles, motorists are going to flatten
everything, completely innocently and by accident.

" Tim Ward, who was driving behind the car as it plunged downhill along
Castle Street, Cambridge, described how another motorist unsuccessfully
tried to warn the woman that smoke was billowing from her car in the moments
before the crash. "
I'll have a tenner on the smoke was from her leaving the handbrake on, thus
boiling the brake fluid - and ultimately: hello Mr Brakefade .

Wow that sounds really scary!!!
Off the top of my head put it in gear let the clutch up with no gas to stall
it ?
At 20mph would the handbrake be of much use ? or send you sliding ?

I've done that a few times, leaving the handbrake on, well what happened was
on the mk4 golf I thought I had put it down all the way but it was part
engaged and then this beeping comes on along with the handbrake warning
light and then I dropped it down properly, how embarrasing that was. Only
happened a handful of times. I make sure I do make that error any more hehe

You have forgotten your cockpit drill from driving lessons, or just decided
not to do it any more?

Dropping the gears and applying the handbrake gently should have stopped it.

What has the handbrake (a cable) to do with brake fluid?

These are genuine clips from British Council flat tenants complaining to the Council about problems with their flats:
* My bush is really overgrown round the front and my back passage has fungus growing in it.
* He's got this huge tool that vibrates the whole house and I just can't take it anymore.
* It's the dogs' mess that I find hard to swallow.
* I want some repairs done to my cooker as it has backfired and burnt my knob off.
* I wish to complain that my father hurt his ankle very badly when he put his foot in the hole in his back passage.
* And their 18 year old son is continually banging his balls against my fence.
* I wish to report that tiles are missing from the outside toilet roof. I think it was bad wind the other night that blew them off.
* My lavatory seat is cracked, where do I stand?
* I am writing on behalf of my sink, which is coming away from the wall.* Will you please send someone to mend the garden path. My wife tripped and fell on it yesterday and now she is pregnant.
* I request permission to remove my drawers in the kitchen
* 50% of the walls are damp, 50% have crumbling plaster and 50% are plain filthy.
* I am still having problems with smoke in my new drawers.
* The toilet is blocked and we cannot bath the children until it is cleared.
* Will you please send a man to look at my water, it is a funny colour and not fit to drink.
* Our lavatory seat is broken in half and is now in three pieces.
* I want to complain about the farmer across the road; every morning at 6am his cock wakes me up and it's now getting too much for me.
* The man next door has a large erection in the back garden, which is unsightly and dangerous.
* Our kitchen floor is damp. We have two children and would like a third so please send someone round to do something about it.
* I am a single woman living in a downstairs flat and would you please do something about the noise made by the man on top of me every night.
* Please send a man with the right tool to finish the job and satisfy my wife.
* I have had the clerk of works down on the floor six times but I still have no satisfaction.
* This is to let you know that our lavatory seat is broke and we can't get BBC2
