Is 8 years long enough? It's very little hassle to set up a basic
spread sheet, and once done, all it takes is to write down the
odometer reading on your fuel receipt (which has the number of litres
on). Type those figures into your spread sheet when you feel in the
mood and, ta-da, instant mpg, average mpg, etc.

Absolutely! I've kept the pence/litre figures too, to track pence/mile.
Bit of a double-edged sword though, when the price rocketed up to 92.9p/l
in Sep 2005 (from 80.9p/l in Jun 2005) I looked at the graph, aghast with
horror. Thought 92.9p/l was unsustainable, terrible, etc.
