Fulham
Not really about cycling, other than in the sense that having the
Brom made it feasible, but I was at Olympia today and took a detour
via Lillie Road, where my grandparents lived in my youth. One of
the great excitements in life was the appearance of blue and white
striped paper bags from Patrick's Toys - and they are still there!
Tom Williams House is still Tom Williams House, but so much smaller
than when I was five; I remember it as a towering skyscraper, but
it's only about six double floors (actually the ground floor were
single-storey, the others are two-storey flats, I think). The place
feels much the same but... less.

I defy anyone my age to see that and not think of Marineville :-)

And a nice ride through the park on the way back, too.

Barely a stone's throw from the site of many a drunken and debauched night
of bridge-playing back when I was a Penniless Student Oaf - some of my
fellow Oaves lived on the corner of Lillie Road and North End Road.
