how do I measure my bb?
I started fiddling to stop a creak and now the kn ckered BB is out
and the bike still hanging there.

What do I need to measure to identify the bb as 68mm or 73mm? The old
one does not say on it.

I must say all those I have fitted previously I just bought without
checking this , so far as I remember.
I am looking forward to replacing it for about 10 to 15gbp. The
original is a cheap generic, probably cost a fiver new, and has done
loads of rough miles.

When unscrewing the bottom bracket how do people remember which way to
turn it? I am always surprised. One day I will strip the thread.

Measure the frame - the width of the BB shell is the relevant bit. Bet it's
68mm though...

It's the other way to pedals. Or look it up on Sheldon. Or look at the
thread on the replacement.

cheers,

It can be hard looking at the replacement to know which side is which.

Yes it is 68mm

I decided to splash out and get a stronglight (still only 12gbp)to fit
the cranks, so I will not have to keep pressing the shifter when in
biggest ring.
