It is a fact that a falling body does not descend vertically towards
the Earth as a superficial application of the laws of motion might
lead one to believe. The word "apparent" is used because there is the
illusion of a force deflecting it. Actually the body's motion is
simply the result of the normal operation of Newton's laws. I haven't
seen the original posting but if as you say Marc claimed that a
falling body does not descend vertically, and that this is due to the
rotation of the Earth, then he was substantially correct. Of course
Roger, Tim and I could be bluffing.
