TV: The Great Climb tonight (Sat) BBC2 (or tomorrow owing to weather?)
Not that many lurk here any more, but...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6944130.stm

"The Great Climb
Sat 18 Aug, 5:25 pm - 6:35 pm 70mins
The BBC's most ambitious climbing outside broadcast for 40 years. Eight of
the world's best climbers scale the massive Shelter Stone and Hell's Lum
rock faces. [S]
The Great Climb was due to go ahead on BBC2 Scotland from 1300 - 1905 BST on
Saturday, 18 August, but was postponed because of bad weather.
It is now scheduled to take place on BBC2 Scotland from 1300 - 1905 BST on
Sunday, 19 August. Part of the live broadcast will also be on BBC2 Network
and the BBC HD channel between 1725 - 1835 BST. The climb will be streamed
live at bbc.co.uk/greatclimb"

Not sure whether this means it will be transmitted in England tomorrow, or
not!

Shame they called it "Ultimate" but yes, if those were her first 3
climbs she did extremely well. I thought she looked remarkably competent
on Crackstone Rib.

Just in the nick of time. I'd forgotten all about it, I'll go and turn the
telly on and see if they managed to do anything today.

I'm watching the repeat. Can someone please tell me that this isn't as
dangerous as it looks!!! I'm not a rock climber.

Well apart from a wee bit of loose rock on the Old Man, no these are not
what would classed as dangerous.

Are there any websites that describe how people climb such rocks with
safety? For example, how you anchor the ropes in case of a fall? Not
that I'm planning to go rock climbing (sorry, just too scared of
heights), but I'd like to know more about how it works.

Not sure about web sites, but there are plenty of books you could get from
your local library on rock climbing for beginners. Or, if Sean has time on
his hands, he could write you an eloquent essay ;-)

Well apart from a wee bit of loose rock on the Old Man, no these are not
what would classed as dangerous.

Are there any websites that describe how people climb such rocks with
safety? For example, how you anchor the ropes in case of a fall? Not
that I'm planning to go rock climbing (sorry, just too scared of
heights), but I'd like to know more about how it works.

Not sure about web sites, but there are plenty of books you could get from
your local library on rock climbing for beginners. Or, if Sean has time on
his hands, he could write you an eloquent essay ;-)

This has now been cancelled due to back weather, they'll have a 30min
available online of what they managed to film yesterday (Sat)

Being scared of heights was *why* I started climbing!
