Basically it refers to a nominal file in which your news reader keeps a
record of user specified criteria for ignoring (killing) certain posts.
The simplest and commonest criteria is to "kill" by author. This means
that any post by that particular author will simply not be displayed.
You will probably have other options such as Kill Thread, Kill Subject
etc.
Another useful option is to kill articles which have been posted to more
than one newsgroup as they are generally by trolls.

But sadly trolls although stupid on one level are quite ingenious when it
comes to trying to get their attention seeking gambits into groups so the
best way is that if they do post and get past whatever filters you have DO
NOT RESPOND TO THEM. All they want is attention and denying them that works
every time.
