Mastic / Sealant deterioration
The sealant (once white) around the external toilet cassette casing (and the
battery box) has become very grubby from road dirt etc. If it wasnt a white
van it might not be quite so noticable.

Its resistant to the normal wash but I am reluctant to vigourously scrub it
for fear of damaging the seal. Has anyone found a successful way/product for
cleaning the sealant.

Re: Mastic / Sealant deterioration
Very good question I have the same thoughts as to why does these horrible
black streaks appear to come from the roof of the van, is there a way to
stop it ?

Hmm another unhelpful reply, why are you people more concerned that a post
has not been edited cropped or whatever way you want it displayed instead of
trying to give a decent possible just in your own opinion reply. I use a few
news groups for my interests but this one seems hell bent on getting rid of
people for some reason.

Try some white spirit with a clean cloth or meths ,I have had good results
with both and finished off with a good quality resin polish to help keep the
dirt out

try some of the following topics:

Barbeques
Dogs
Children
Red fire buckets
The '5 Metre Rule'
Site wardens

You did see the smiley???

To get rid of the black marks I use liquid flash, then polishing the
van with a good car wax polish makes it easier to get them off next
time.

Re: Mastic / Sealant deterioration
Why I ask the question of what people use to get rid of black marks is that
there is a rumor/argument from Bailey who say not to use any other cleaner
than there recommended brand as it would invalidate warranty, as mine is an
08 van I don't want to get into problems, the meths sounds a good idea and
then polish. I think the problem Bailey are on about may only be the front
and back panels, but not sure.

I use Muc-off [ www.muc-off.com ] and find it very good cleaning all
awkward and stubborn marks and streaks.
