Aerials
Does the new type directional aerial on caravans do a reasonable job
with digital TV, or is a "proper" aerial still needed?

While you mileage may vary -
I have the new shape Status and used it the other day at a CL. No TV picture
on analogue. Hit the digital tune and hey presto all the digital multiplex
were there.
A helpful other visitor came across to say that I'd need a great big aerial
like his to get a TV. He did this while I was watching TV! He He he
So yes mine works

Re: Aerials
I have the status 530 I think its called and its the best I have ever had,
you can tweak it anyway plus move it from horizontal to vertical without
moving out of the van its very good. I cant praise it enough.

Thanks for the reply's.
My current van has the Status onimax (2001 Pageant Magenta) and the
aerial doesn't even work for radio reception, I have a strip earial
fixed to the roof of the front locker for the radio and a mid gain
digital aerial stuck on the side of the van for TV.
I have a new Pageant 7 on order, that has the status 530, so it looks
as if my problems will be over :-)

If you want to be almost 100% certain of being able to get a signal,
then look at portable satellite systems. You can usually get a perfect
signal even buried deep in valleys with no terrestrial transmitters in
range and much more channel choice than freeview.

Mine works fine. Before I go away I log on to
http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe
put in the postcode of the site I'm going to and it tells you what
compass bearing to set the aerial to and whether it should be horizontal
or vertical. It also tells if there is no reception so you can save
weight and leave the TV at home!

or if you're feeling flush get a crank up dish which fits to the roof
and you can make all the adjustments from within the caravan. It also
has the advantage of being son 2.5 metres higher than one on the
ground - hence easier tuning and less bother from trees!
