Creaking hitch
Hitch has suddenly started creaking on small, low-speed changes of
direction. It's a 2007 Alko stabiliser type. As far as I can see, ball on
car is clean of oil etc.

I've heard (literally) other outfits doing this, but not experienced it
before.

Is there an obvious remedy?

This can happen if the friction pads are worn. I've not had to do it
myself but have heard that it is an easy job to replace them.

I had this same problem, I cured it by cleaning my towball with some
emery cloth and the trouble stopped. Pete

Van has just been serviced, so I'll try this one first.

To clean the ball get a brake and clutch cleaner aerosol, spray the ball
liberally, and wipe it with a tissue.

Little point in using abrasive - the hitch locked on does that
effectively enough on its own!

Re: Creaking hitch
Hi
The same thing happened to me after a service, I reckon the service towcar
had a greasy or rusty towball, I did what the others said, degreased the
towball and inside the hitch with brake cleaner spray, it's fine now.
cheers

Hi Firebucket,

Yes, I had my suspicions!

I've used the cleaner spray etc, so we'll find out on Saturday if it's
worked when we set off for our summer trek.
