Hi Bill.
If you recall spoke to you few weeks back and you gave lots of useful
info on the Hymer Nova 545.

Picking your brains again,appears the vam has Tyron safety bands fitted to 
the
alloy wheels.
Do these come as standard on the Hymer do you know ??.

Had 4 days in it last weekend doing few jobs how I want it.

Most surprised of the build of van,no more cutting a small hole
with a stanley knife though the 3mm spaced out ply,had to get the big tools 
out
to get though the 12 mm wood wall..

Spent some time trying to fill onboard water tank  :-( after I was given bum
info from dealer.

Was told to connect pump to van(the most powerful pump I've seen) to
the metal connecter,open hot taps till water flows freely,then put taps in 
cold
water position and that would then fill onboard tank,did it ****.

The fixed bed was a joy,really comfortable,really did enjoy the van.

Still think the onboard water tank bung crap idea,have now fitted 19mm tap
to the drain pipe under van.
Has another stupid waste of a 13 amp socket BEHIND the bed headboard,
makes one wonder what the Germans get up :-) .

No they must be an after fit, very good idea though.

That's the way they do it, it's all quite solidly done. I had just too
many problems with screws coming loose for my liking, but once they
were sorted everything has been fine.

Whatever you do do not connect the pump to the metal connector and
then turn the outside switch on, this will blow the seals that keep
the two systems separate and will cost you to replace. It will not
stop you using the internal tank but it will stop you using the
aquaroll as your only source. To fill the tank put the pump into the
aquaroll, open the filler cap put the end of the pipe down the filler
hole, ( do not let go or you will get soaked ) and then turn the
switch on and stand looking like a wally until the tank is full.

I never questioned it, it just worked and seemed a very simple and
almost foolproof solution.

We have two on the worktop by the door, one recessed over the sink
unit ( never use it ) and one on the front shelf under the window.

Hi Bill,thanks for reply and info.

I'm a little confused by your statment above,this is what I did
first time out.

With a full aqaroll I connected the blue pipe on the pump to the
metal connector/opened one of the hot taps in van/ went back outside
and turned switch on,wife watching over taps until water was flowing
without sputter/ close that tap and opened the other hot tap @ wash
basin until that flowed nicely without sputter,this filled the hot system.

Is the above correct way of filling hot water heater ??,have I done thing 
correctly.

It was at this point according to the dealer that the internal tank would 
start to fill
automaticlly after filling hot tank/pipes etc,of couse they where not 
correct.

That is the way I have been filling internal tank after the dealers info was 
proved
to be incorrect.

I have never tried it, but when I collected my nice new toy in 2003
the bloke from Lowdhams who handed the caravan over to me and
demonstrated everything  particularly said never to pug the lead in
and then turn on the external pump, he said that there are seals in
the system which are supposed to stop the water going into the
internal tank if the aquaroll is being used as a main source and which
allow water through from the internal tank when that is being used as
source. Presumably these are non return valves.

I had not considered it, but it looks like a good enough way of doing
it, I would not do it as I would be concerend about the valves in the
system ( having been warned about them ) but it does sound to be a
good idea.  What I have always done is to fill my aquaroll, pump the
whole lot of it into the internal tank, then go inside and open the
hot water tap on the sink, as soon as it runs I turn it over to
running cold water. Then go to the bathroom sink and do the same so as
to prevent air locks. Then I go and get another aquaroll and pump that
in as well and since I use a 30 litre aquaroll the two barrels just
fill the tank and the water heater.

Not according to the engineer up at Lowdhams

It is the only way to do it.

Thanks Bill.
Going to van this weekend and will have another read of book.

I'm sure it stated in book that connecting to the metal connector
was the only way of filling the hot water system.

Will check weekend and post back Monday.

This is what my book says

It does not actaully make any mention of how to fill the internal
tank.  Mind you after 5 years I can assure you that my method works
and that the hot water tank always fills, you just need to select
which source of cold water you want ( internal pump or external pump )
on the switch on the bed locker front, then when you open the taps as
long as there is water in whichever tank you have selected the hot
water tank will fill. It's just like the old carver cascade in that
respect.
