No, they have a dedicated EPG that only genuine Freesat boxes can use.

Yes in a way, no in another.
The stations you recieve now with a normal Free to air box are those that
appear on Freesat, the same satellite transmissions are used.
( I think you might miss out at the moment CH4 and Five, but it is thought
these will became fta in the future.)

Now what you will not get is the Freesat EPG and the HD stations.

Some Freesat boxes only recieve the 80 'ish stations on the Freesat EPG. so
your box will be better than the Freesat box in the number of stations.

Channel 4, E4, E4 +1 are transmitted in the clear but with a different
channel id - ie channel 4 is 8350, can't remember what the others are
offhand. Channel 5 and its variants are not on Freesat either.

Re: freesat
Hi
I have a Maxview camping sat box which picks up all free channels
I Rang Maxview and asked about FREESAT and YES they said it would pick up
all FREESAT channels exept ch4 which will be on later also it will of course
NOT be able to pick up HD
But overaul I am very happy about this reciever which is very similar to
MAPLINS model but the MAXTOR has a magic eye which I required as My Maxtor
is fitted inside a cupboard so unable to use the remote without a magic eye.
A search of all channels i have picked up 270 tv channels with loads of
radio channels.

SO to some up YES it picks up FREESAT WELL
