Don't you just love caravan forums
If you are ever tempted to read or take part in ukcampsite.co.uk be
warned that it is a very censored and very secretive place. The
censorship takes the form of whatever the forum owners decide and no
explanation or information about it is ever forthcoming. I seem to
have got myself blacklisted goodness only knows why, I have not posted
anything contentious, or anything inflamatory, or anything that could
be in any way be considered as an attack on another member or even
anything that was even slightly off topic. I logged on at the weekend
to find that I was unable to answer any message or create a new
message or even edit my profile, I contacted the moderators who will
not explain nor do they seem to be prepared to do anything, they have
not sent me a message saying that such and such a message contravened
our rules because.................., they just censor anything that
they feel like censoring. So if there is anyone here who also
contributes to that forum or ever takes notice of any recommendations
from or even seeks recommedations for caravan sites from there, be
warned take whatever replies you get with a pinch of salt, someone
with a genuine reply may well have said something that one of their
moderators did not agree with an so that opinion or experience will
not be tolerated.

Sorry to hear that Bill

Its a forum I refuse to have anything to do with

I've NEVER believed in censorship

I do believe there is no necessity to use bad language

Those that do digress in that manner , get banished to the SIN BIN rapidly

I trust you and the Mrs L are well ,

By the way what's happened with Mary , I've not seen her for AGES

I never bother with forums.

After all the rants and raves and abuse in newsgroups can be quite
amusing.

Indeed, some people take life far too seriously, a bit of banter puts the
problems of owning a British built caravan (!) etc in perspective!

I do occasionally use that forum and I find the site search useful. And it
has stopped us from making a few bad choices, but I find that you have to
take the reviews of the sites by users none to serious as some sites that I
have been to and though wonderful others have slagged into oblivion.

I quite enjoy reading what people have to say and if I can help a few
people as much as I have been helped over the years then all well and
good. The rants and raves i pass over quite quickly, and make sure I

Exactly mind you I smile whenever british built vans are mentioned I
bought a german one. Mind you the outside is built like a tank and so
far has resisted all attempts by the weather to gain ingress, but the
insides are to me no more durable that anything british and are infact
a lot less durable than the 1994 award that I had previously.

I would now be very very cautious of any recommendation for a site
from that source, they obviously censor things quite substantially.

Wandering a bit off topic -
Missing Mary possibly suffering the same fate as many Tiscali users - Port
blocking of port 119 at peak periods effectively preventing access to
newsgroups at the time of day that most people expect to use them.

Yup.

Bill - I hope you enjoy your new grandchild. The novelty has worn off with
us after 22 years and ten grandchildren - one living with us now as we
thought we'd settled into a good Darby and Joan lifestyle. We'll even have
to resurrect a bunk in the 'van.

Long story, involving a death before Christmas* artificial respiration not
working until second week in January - then problems with my server (NOT
Tiscali!).

When Life returned I couldn't find urc. Someone's just mailed me and I tried
to find you all again and hey presto! Since I always read the handsome Bill
and lovely Die Sea this thread was the first I turned to.

Now to see what Neil has to say :-)

Nice to be back,

Ok it's a fair cop I'll accept the smacked hand. I still think that
people need to be aware that some of these forums are heavily censored

Yes, I thought I was quite clever getting back to caravanning :-)

Trouble is, our lodger is full size - taller than me. Mind you, as my

My son and what is more his wife is of the same opinion as myself that
the cost of disposable nappies is outrageous and that he does not want
to have to buy a couple of acres of landfill to bury his babies
nappies in. So they have cotton towelling ones. Not squares mind you
but fancy shaped things with wings all over the palce and velcro
instead of nappy pins.
They are just chicken and haven't the courage to stick a nappy pin
into a nappy, it's unsafe you know having such sharp things around a
baby. Somebody has done a risk analysis on it and found that nappy
pins have a sharp point and that just occasionally some poor wee thing
might get scratched. I don't know how our kids survived. (:-)

Yes but the landfill ... and expense. And don't quote figures to me, I know

Quite.

I bought a daughter some advanced nappies, they didn't have Velcro but they
did have tapes.

I mean!

You don't have any fun making up new folds with such things!

Hi Mary,

Nice to see you back - I'm still here listening and ready to chip in
when I've something constructive to add(or ask!)

As for forums(fora?), I used to subscribe to a camping one many, many
years ago before uk.rec.camping was born, but although it could be
useful at times, I still preferred newsgroups and the ability to read
off-line. Still being on dial-up, I find a good off-line news
reader(Agent) to be far faster than any web based forum. I too, do
not agree with any one individual having the power of censorship, and
thus have never bothered with forums since that time.

All the best

Neil

possible interpretation is that the moderator ian@ukcampsite.co.uk

Welcome to the club. I was so annoyed at being arbitrarily excluded
that I have redone my own permissions and told the idiot moderators
thankyou for all their help but as they were so inefficient at doing
what was needed that i have made arrangements to be able to post
again. I have decided to be a thorn in their sides ( politely of
course ) for the forseeable future. If they remove my permissions
again I will simply change to a different personality and tell them
so.

Did they ever give you a half way rational explanation for the problems? I
hope you will still post on CT2.

The only explanation came when I asked why my permissions had been
removed was to point to this thread and say enough said. But since
they removed those permissions at least three days before I posted
anything on here it just does not hold water, hence my suggestion that
the moderator thinks he is clairvoyant, I just wish I had his powers I
would win the lottery every week.
I will post anywhere that will have me, providing that it is on the
topic of caravans and is not unreasonably censored. I will even post
on UKcampsites but in future I will not be too careful about what I
say, if I annoy Ian the moderator then so be it he can remove my
newly found permissions and I will imediately restore them with one of
my other accounts with them ( I now have several aliases on that
forum). I will of course carry on being my usual polite and honest
self.
