Where have some of the regular posters gone?
Just on a point of curiosity I thought I would ask the question! I drop in
most days to this newsgroup, as I have for many years, but it seems a
shadow of its former self. Whilst there are still some regulars here there
seem to be a lot of the previous regular users not now posting, not least
Dave Fawthrop! Also what happen to Motorhome Life who use to plague us!

There was a post saying he had died.

Also he did a lot of posts that upset a lot of people over a few days.

Re: Where have some of the regular posters gone?
David,

I think some of the regulars have gone to http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk

I think the web based nature of ukcampsite makes it easier to use. Lots of
web newbie's know nothing of news groups and news readers and are happy to
do everything from their web browser. Personally, I'm all in favour of
making information accessible!

BTW, you web site updates this year are very entertaining!

The web based client is clumsy and cumbersome when compared to using a
proper newsreader.

Re: Where have some of the regular posters gone?
Sorry Bill, don't agree.

I'm an IT professional and working with the great unwashed has taught me
that usability is the name of the game! Your average punter doesn't want to
learn how to set up a news reader. They think that the web 'should just
work' and the web for them is what you get when you start IE7.

Re: Where have some of the regular posters gone?
I'm with Bill Lord on this one, Newsgroups present the messages to the user
to read or ignore, web based forums have to be navigated thus time consuming.
IE7 - is how Bill Gates decided that the public should use the web!
IT professional - someone who once worked in PC World on Saturdays!
Users should be encouraged to think for themselves, remember Bill
Shakespeare never attended media / drama classes

Proper computers! - the first one I was involved with installing (it came
'flat packed') used cold cathode tubes for bit shift registers and memory
the 'CPU'(a motley collection of reed relays) was timed from an
electromechanical wall clock with a 1 second pulse (1hz) that read the
output and reset the tubes transferring the information to 5 bit punched
tape. The 'software' being a series of movable wire links.
