Sturts Stony Desert
For our website dog Rusty and I spend a lot of time in Australia's
wilderness. Last winter we camped in Sturts Stony Desert. Flat stony
pavement from horizon to horizon. A minimalist landscape. Nothing
stands out. There are no pleasantries. The nights are cold with frost.
Brush your teeth with a lump of ice. But by 10am you change into
shorts, and midday brings a heat haze. It's an awesome sight when that
endless barren Earth starts to dance upwards and becomes one with the
sky. As if the wrapping had been removed and you stare at a raw planet
and the machinery which runs all things. No landscape has ever
impressed me more. Should you ever get there: NO water in this desert!
Greetings - Klaus
