Stocks & Shares................
How can I find out the total number of stocks in a given company? For
example if the price of one share in a given company is $1 where do I go to
find out the total number of shareholders to get an estimate of the total
value of the company or total shares issued? So at $1 a share with a
million shares issued the company is worth $1M.

Is this a simplistic calculation? Is there something else I need to take
into account to find out the approximate value of the given company?

Any help much appreciated.

Look up the company annual report, which will state the number of
shares in circulation. You can also get an estimate of the Market
Capitalisation from sites like http://www.digitallook.com

When companies are buying back their own shares, they issue notices
stating the number of shares with voting rights. See
http://www.investegate.co.uk/Article.aspx?id=200706201712287398Y for a
typical example.
