Bluetongue - Live imports yet again
Pat's Note: Had Maff told the truth about the origins of CSF and FMD,
this could never have happened.

Live imports would have been seen as the real risk to Britain.

Imported cows bring fresh bluetongue to the UK
News | 29 August, 2008

By Jack Davies
THE Bluetongue virus has been confirmed in eight imported cattle on a
farm near Tiverton, Devon.

The heifers were imported from a Protection Zone in Germany and were
discovered following post-import testing by Defra making the farm the
third infected premises to be confirmed this week as farmers continue
to risk importing animals from bluetongue zones on the continent.

Pressure is now likely to mount on Defra to cull the animals and
prevent the disease passing into the domestic livestock population
after fierce criticism that two infected rams imported earlier this
week were allowed to remain on the farms......
