Do British pigs have MRSA?
Pat's Note: We need to get this sorted - and right now. It is to
everyone's benefit

The National Pig Association Site (PIg World)

No MRSA found in British pigs

As reported on this page recently, first quarter results from a
Europe-wide probe has not uncovered MRSA in United Kingdom pigs.
Nevertheless there is a potential issue of migrant workers bringing it
onto pig farms. The Defra antimicrobial resistance committee will
therefore ask the Pig Veterinary Society to provide advice to pig
producers so they can ensure their biosecurity protocols consider
MRSA. The American Society of Microbiology is planning to hold an MRSA
conference in Britain next year, which will be followed by a one-day
seminar for vet and health practitioners. — Zoe Davies, NPA.

Pat's Notes continued.

Now, let's be big boys, BPEX, the NPA and all the other pig
organisations have overlapping membership.

BPEX's Chair is in the gift of DEFRA and BPEX Ltd is a subsidiary of
the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board. The funding comes
from a levy from farmers and processors authorised by Parliament.

The statement s are effectively authorised by Defra or are they?

What's all the clock and dagger stuff about?

Are Defra saying that the pigs do not have MRSA? and what is all the
"migrant workers" stuff about. Foreign workers on pig farms are
invariably employed by the farmers.

Is the question of the dangers of employing "migrant workers" now
government policy?

Anyway, it can't go on.

We need a clear and immediate statement from the Chief Vet of the
United Kingdom on the MRSA status of Britain's pigs, not unattributed
publicity puff out via the back door.
