I would have suppressed the "waiter" bit altogether - 4 months is
easily "lost" in a CV. I would have had myself doing voluntary work
whilst improving my "outstanding numerical skills".

Luckily, I'm not the type of person that makes assumptions without
evidence to support it.
He had studied the first year of an accounting degree and had no
accounting experience. Not exactly the type of person I would want to
consider for a job.
