Stalling problem.
All,

Quick question....still having some teething problems with my 72 1302
beeetle.

Initially, the battery would not charge above 11V making starting very
difficult, this has been fixed and now it starts fine.

What I'm finding now is that after a couple of minutes in fourth gear, when
I stop at the lights it just stalls every time!! :-(
I can restart fine, and it doesn't seem to stall then while
idling.....always just when slowing down! Strange!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gez.

Could probably be a Vacuum leak

Re: Stalling problem.
Probably an air-leak through cracked intake manifold rubber joints.
I used to find that if you declutch before the revs die away, mine wouldn't
stall, but if you let the engine slow the Bus down, it would - hard to see the
crack, but when I got them off it was very obvious.
It's not the easiest of jobs, but I managed it OK so it can't be that hard
either.

It doesn't happen when first started as the mixture is rich enough for the
weakening of the air leak to be tolerated.

Probably more what I meant, mine had a leak in the elbow's on the balance
pipe between the two carbs (2.0L type 4 motor) and that did exactly as the
OP describes, until I replace the elbows.
