OT: Ebay
WTF are people on? I'm currently flogging my old van on the bay and it's got
to £700, despite the fact that none of the bidders have come to look at it.
I mean, WTF? I'd not bid on a £100 car if I'd not looked it over.

I've bought loads of cars on EBay without viewing, if you turn up and it's
not as described you walk away, you are under no obligation to buy no mater
what the seller thinks.

You beat me to it. I was about to say the same thing. Neither would I expect
a buyer to buy a car off me even if he'd won the auction, turned up, and it
wasn't as described etc.

I've bought five without seeing them first. Four I was happy
with. One, a Jaguar, I rejected as despite a glowing description
it was very rusty, and IMO almost ready for the scrapheap. I got
my deposit back, and eBay accepted my reasons for doing so. So no
negative feedback.
Cheeky bugger still thought I should pay his listing fee though.
Needless to say, I didn't.

Indeed. But it's a simple enough rule to adhere to as a seller - just don't
use *any* words like "immaculate", "pristine", or "virtually as new", 'cos
no matter how good it is some cunt will come along and pick holes in it in
some way or another. And be honest about any faults, or better still don't
mention anything that's only minor and not glaringly obvious, instead
include them in the general babble of "obviously it's 12 years old, so it's
not perfect, but it's been very reliable in the x years I've had it and not
given me any problems", or such like.

I usually try and make it sound worse than it is, then there's no room for
complaint. I flogged an old Golf a while ago and described it as "filthy
inside". It was actually not that bad, and the buyer was pleasantly
surprised..

In essence, that's what I was getting at. I normally end up being too
honest, and rambling on a fair bit. Which is weird, 'cos I'm nothing at all
like that in real life. My over-honesty in ebay situations often actually
ends up getting me potentially less than a lot of people might have got with
less words and less photos, though, but I end up with a clear conscience if
nothing else!

Nope. Sold it because there's no work for it.

Ah well. Shame that.
