I know people will say "HFM" but
I love these cars, if I had the cash I would, and this looks so much
better nick than my old one and has probably been well looked after.
Shame T.S.L are Subaru only now instead of Saab and Subaru.

The wheels need shooting, otherwise this looks like a nice
convertible. They are better cars than the Vectra convertible that
followed it so they still command a premium. Plus there aren't many good
C900s around anymore anyway.
Nice touch that the seller asserts how well the engines last. That they
do, but turbos do like lunching their gearboxes if not driven
sensibly before the engine goes bang.

Yeah, that old one of mine, totally solid body wise, apart from fucked A
pillars that looked ok initially (and passed an MOT the day before I
bought it), and a leaky roof, had had a recon turbo, full engine rebuild
and a recon gearbox. It had cover over 200k before that though and 250k
when I bought it. Reciepts for almost everything apart from the shell
and apart from the convertible scuttle shake which they all have, it was
the tightest 900 I've driven (tried a few others, 3 door and convertible
between the two I owned), gear shift was nice, no wooliness finding
third that normally afflicts them when the detent groove is worn after
the spring breaks. That one is probably within sensible levels for a
gearbox, driven sensibly. And that doesn't mean slow it just means
knowing when to shift, when to use the gears and not to totally nail it
to the floor everyday except in 4th and 5th.
I'm in a similar position with the 9000 aero I've got. The box was
replaced when it failed, with a much lower mileage box from a 2.3
injection. It means it accelerates like a chimp up a tree, but runs out
of legs really quickly. You can hold 30 in 5th on fairly level roads
just tickling it along then pull from there, but 2000 revs is 50 in 5th
when it should be nearer to 70. Fuel economy suffers for it too, I can
get 27-30 instead of closer to 32-35mpg average, and I drive carefully.
It also means I get the weaker casing and diff from the injection as
well as the lower final drive. I could look for a used aero box, but it
needs to be the pre-94 one, and would most likely be in the same state
as the old one, or I could get an aero diff fitted and costs about the
same as a box rebuild anyway, or I could find a proper recon aero box
that would probably cost not much more than the price of the car.
It works so I'm leaving that as is.

That certainly looks bloody nice - and £4k isn't OTT for it. General
consensus seems to be that the convertible works best in LPT (145bhp)
form - enough power to be fun, not enough to show the lack of rigidity
compared to the tin-top up. Still. I wouldn't say no.
You're dead right about those wheels, though...

Quite. 220bhp is starting to get into "Spare 'box in the garage"
territory.
