Alpha 156 gear problem
A friend is looking to buy a Alpha 156 2 litre petrol selaspeed year 2000 W
reg

In first gear it beeps but not the others - anyone know reason? Is this a
fault or warning?
Are there many known problems with this model?

I'll assume you're talking about an Alfa 156 Selespeed...

Don't. Just... don't. The Selespeed was one of many attempts at a semi-
auto around the late '90s, early '00s - all of which were a bag of shite.
The Selespeed was notorious even amongst them.

Seconded. Also, if the Selespeed box is faulty, it could cost
thousands to replace and that would easily write off the car. That box
(though better with later cars) wasn't reliable at all back then.
Avoid at all costs unless you don't like your friend..

Have a word with bba-reman - www.bba-reman.co.uk

If the actuator is ok (they can guide you through the self test mode) then
you are looking at a new gearbox, inwhich case the best advice would be to
scrap the car.

They're good whilst they work.... and long may mine continue working.

To the OP: When you say 'beeps', what do you mean? - and does it affect
the way the car drives?
