[fluff] Why...
The Book People have their summer sale on. One of their books is that
encyclopedia of 5000 spells. Would someone explain to me why my magpie
brain has gone 'Ooh! You'll want that one then!'

I would think that "5000" spells" would cover all eventualities.
Earthquakes, avoiding metorites and blue ice from planes, ear wax removel,
etc.
The one I use is mostly...
Use your brains and logic.

Ah, but by the time one has found the book (under the piles of paper)
then found the right page then found the ingredients required... ;-)

Oh, would that work then? Wow, where can I buy it?
Have I mentioned before that I am one of those people who fell for the
'they've taken 'gullible' out of the dictionary' gag at school?

Ah, first I must find a good tattoo artist, then the money for said
design. Then I've got to decide whether to do the whole tribal
huge-black-tattoo thing or what. Plus I wanted a beard-pulleresque
design on my right arm first but the guy emigrated before I could get
it done. I've got a rough draft of it somewhere.

Heh. That's what I said after last time but it's been ten years now...

Ah I see.
We have a good studio near us - not had any ink done there myself but the
work on mates is phenomenally good - especially the black and grey linework.
Will be handing them my trade soone as I figure out whats getting done next.

Oh yes I am familiar with that. Took me till age 28 to get the first one,
the next when I was 34. Not waiting as long for the next ink. 'Tis an
addiction to be sure but at least I am bothered enough to think carefully
about what I want on my skin for the rest of my life, and who is to carry
out the task; a consideration I have tried to get across to young teens
along with piercing guidelines. I figure they might be more inclined to take
it in if the advice is offered by someone who has work done themselves.

To be fair I've not seen a lot of ill-considered tattoos recently,
although that could be because a) I don't get out much and b) the folk
I do see are the type to carefully think about ink instead of going in
and getting some cutesy flash art Tweety Pie or something. Lots of
piercings though, for some reason I found myself considering a lip
piercing but I still have the two holes in my eyebrow to remind me
that they never fully go away. :-) That and the fact that I paid far
too much for my teeth to risk cracking them on a piercing. <g>

Maybe we have a greater number of idiots round here <G>
On the last note - I've had my labret done for about 9 years now and besides
catching it on my teeth while eating and hurting my lip I've had no tooth
issues but then the labret is lower than a lip piercing and uses a flat
backed stud rather than a ring. I'd love a slightly higher ring for my lip
but my anatomy is not conducive - another reason for choosing an excellent
piercer is they can tell you this and not just take the money and run.
Although cracking teeth on a piercing might be more of a risk if you indulge
in dangerous activities.
I've noticed a lot of scare mongering about tats and piercings in the press
and coming from medical persons. I genuinely feel that much of it is
bollocks based on ignorance and fear of difference. People have been
punching holes in themselves and filling said holes with ink, soot or metal
for a goodly long time now. Its probably safer than it was 40,000 years ago.

There's a waiting list to get in here. <g>

Well now I'd never though about lip anatomy being not right for
piercing. I don't think I'm that interested in more piercings though,
I'll stick with the ones I have. :-)
>Although cracking teeth on a piercing might be more of a risk if you indulge

Not as far as I know. I do grind my teeth though so plainly never give
my jaw a rest, I worry about getting caught up in a piercing while I'm
asleep. <g>

And dealing with the very few cases that go wrong. Every health
professional must have their own personal bugbear related to field of
expertise - when IIa was still getting her foot looked at there were
many posters up at the clinic[1] advising of the dangers of
trampolines (with graphic illustrations of arms beding in a
non-standard manner etc.) and how everyone who bought one was a fool.

I daresay. There will always be an unlucky few though, and of course
these days they are the ones who sell their stories to cheap
magazines. ;-)
[1] I'm trying to remember the name of the clinic now, and I can't.
She's just started going to a podiatry clinic, but this was a bone
one... orth... orthopaedics? They've got so many clinics between them
that I forget what they're called. :-/
